Astrantia - Snow Star

The Astrantia Snow Star PP#12697, ‘Astrantia is a lovely variety from Future Plants. It is pale greenish white, with the light scent of anise. It grows to a height: 30″. It is Plant Patent Protected. Asexual Propagation Prohibited. These long flowering perennials are ideal when planted in borders or along streams. It makes an excellent cut flower. Astrantias thrive in moist, humus-rich or heavy clay soil. With good soil moisture, astrantias can be planted in full sun. To stimulate more blooms, remove old flowers. Blooms last long - late spring to early summer, and the bracts usually remain attractive well after bloom. Like little pincushions, their abundant blooms float above rosettes of mid-sized, deeply lobed, bright green leaves.

Fuchsia - Golden Marinka

The Fuchsia Golden Marinka, ‘Fuchsia hybrid is a heat tolerant hybrid. Along with outstanding heat tolerance, they also feature upright growth habits, lovely single flowers, and fantastic colors. The Golden Marinka has lovely red flowers and golden variegated leaves on a mounding trailing plant. Besides patio planters and mixed container gardens, they do extremely well in beds and borders. This Proven Selections plant blooms all summer long. They are great plants for greenhouses, window boxes, baskets, homes, and flower beds. The flowers, which are produced during the summer and early fall, are droopy and come in many colors. Fuschia is one of the Hummingbirds favorite flowers. Fuchsias do not like to dry out. Keep the soil moist to the touch from spring through autumn. In many parts of the country (and especially if planted in a hanging pot) the fuchsia will require daily watering. Anise

The Anise, ‘Pimpinella anisum was so enjoyed by the Romans, they could pay taxes with anise. The seeds and leaves are tasty and they are also useful for medicinal purposes. Anise seed has a sweet, licorice flavor and is used to intensify sweetness in cakes, pastries, and cookies. Also, either alone or combined with cinnamon or bay, compliments duck, pork, or fish. The leaves are also added to salads, soups, and vegetables. Tea or ground seeds are said to aid in digestion. Chewed, anise removes bad odors from the mouth. Anise is a tall plant with rounded leaves at the base and narrow leaves further up the upright stem. The yellowish-white flowers occur in umbels during the summer. Plant after the last spring frost when soil temperatures are warm. Anise prefers a protected spot because it grows spindly and is easily damaged by wind. The soil should be fairly rich and well drained.

The Squash Winter Delicate Honey Boat, ‘Cucurbita pepo is as sweet as honey. This small Delicata is a gourmets delight and it is full of nutrition. Honey Boat is a small, very sweet, Delicata-type squash that weights 3/4 to 11/2 pounds and is a perfect size for one or two servings. The rich, dark orange flesh has a delectably sweet, nutty flavor. Being a winter squash, it will store well for several months. Winter squash is rich in calcium, potassium, vitamin C, A, and folic acid. . Plant in the spring, 2 to 4 weeks after the last average frost date. Squash prefers well drained, rich soil with lots of organic matter. Harvest after first or second light frost. Delicata squash is ready to harvest when the stem and skin hardens and the orange spot on the darkens. Winter squash cannot be overripe, but they can be under ripe.
