Weigela – Polka
Polka Weigela, weigela florida ‘Polka is a compact rounded shrub with thick, dark green leaves that contrast with the attractive, clear pink flowers with a yellow throat. Many think this is the best pink weigela! Large pink flowers cover this plant from June through September. It adds spectacular color to the landscape during the summer months. It requires full sun and prefers a well-drained soil. A very hardy moderate growing plant, this weigela grows 3-4 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide. Polka Weigela has an old fashioned look with its bright pink trumpet-shaped flowers and is a great choice for color in foundation planting and mixed borders. This plant is considered mostly allergy free and causes little or no allergy problems in most people. For a formal appearance, shear annually after flowering.

Celosia – Fresh Look Red
The Celosia Fresh Look Red, ‘Celosia plumosa also known as Cockscomb, is one of the most colorful foliage plants for beds, borders, pots, planters and window boxes and they provide a fresh floral look all summer long. The Fresh Look Red thrives in the summer heat and humidity, with drought, or rainy weather conditions. Fresh Look Red decorates a garden or patio container with rosy red plumes and it covers up old plumes by producing new foliage and plumes. It won the Gold Medal for its consistent performance with minimal maintenance and pest-free growth. The plant always looks fresh, needing no grooming. When grown in the full sun, ‘Fresh Look Red’ plants mature at 12 to 18 inches tall and spreads 12 to 20 inches. The central plume can be 8 to 10 inches tall and 5 inches wide. Like all Celosia plumosa, the flowers can be cut and dried for long lasting homemade bouquets. This plant is vigorouis and is an excellent performer. It is an All-American selection Gold Medal Winner and a Fleuroselect Gold Medal Winner.

Herb – Lemon Grass
The Lemon Grass, Cymbopogon citratus, is a very fragrant grass and it is a versatile performer in the kitchen where it can be used in teas, beverages, herbal medicines, and Eastern inspired soups and other dishes. The leaves of this plant are used for many medicinal purposes. They can be dried and used in the making of Vietnamese and Thai curries. This tropical grass grows in dense clumps that can grow to 6 ft in height. The straplike leaves have gracefully drooping tips. The evergreen leaves are bright bluish-green and release a citrus aroma when crushed. It is the leaves that are used as flavoring and in medicine. They are steam distilled to extract lemongrass oil, an old standby in the the perfumer’s palette of scents. Gardeners in subtropical areas will enjoy using lemongrass in beds and borders.
