Ebony Spleenwort Fern
Ebony Spleenwort Fern, Asplenium platyneuron, is an evergreen fern which typically grows to 15″ tall and occurs on rocky wooded ledges, rocky slopes and mossy banks. The fronds are arching, pinnate, somewhat glossy and are dark green and sterile. The central stipe (stem) is dark purplish brown. Ebony Spleewort Ferns are also know as Spleenwort Ferns. The common name of spleenwort refers to purported medicinal value once attributed to the plant. Plant in dry, rocky, shady areas of rock gardens (will grow in rocky crevices), native plant gardens or woodland areas. The ideal planting area would be in a shaded area rich in leaf mulch. This fern is very attractive when planted with wildflowers such as Tillium, Mertensia and columbines.

Pepper Greek – Pepperochini
The Pepper Chile Pepperoncini Greek, ‘Capsicum annuum is the essential pickled pepper in Greek salads and antipasto platters. The flavorful golden pepper is the classic garnish for deli sandwiches, salads and pizza. It is usually picked and pickled in the yellow stage. The Pepperoncini Greek Chile pepper holds its color and flavor well when processed. This pepper plant is very productive. Transplant outside in the spring 3 to 4 weeks after last frost date. Note: To get a jump on the season transplant outside, use a walls-of-water or some black plastic to maintain and increase temperatures. Plant in average garden soil with sufficient organic matter. Peppers use quite a bit of water but prefer to be watered deeply and not too often. Harvest when peppers are yellow and 3 to 4 inches long.

The Daylily Destined to See, ‘Hemerocallis has attractive creamy white petals with a blue-violet eye-zone. Accented with a rich purple edging. Fragrant, blooms 4-5″ across. Early mid-season bloomer, this is an evergreen variety. Daylilies are the perfect perennial. Each plant sends up many flower stems, and each stem bears 12 or more buds. Bloom is lavish and continues for several weeks or more on each plant. Trouble-free, maintenance-free, they tolerate most soils and conditions if they get at least 6 hours of sun. Use them in a perennial border, in front of shrubbery, as an edging along a walk or wall, and in your bulb beds, where they hide the ripening foliage of tulips and daffodils. They need dividing only every 10-15 years. Plants 18-24″ apart.
