Mountian Fleece Flower – Firetail

The Mountain Fleece Firetail, ‘Persicaria a Blooms of Bressingham plant, is a wonderful variety in the Persicaria family. With its superb, medium green leaves it has a plant height of 3-4 and a spread of 3-4. The flowers are crimson red and bloom in June and July, but this plant is more noted for its foliage. Firetail should be planted in a full sun area but can tolerate some afternoon shade. Sun will make the foliage look its best. It does need a well-drained area, making sure it is not over watered. Firetail will look great in any perennial garden, in mixed container, woodland edge or near ponds and streams. Try planting it with your favorite Salvia or Nepta.

Pepper – Chile – Pasilla Bajio

The Pepper Chile Pasilla Bajio, ‘Capsicum annuum is also called “chilaca” and “chile negro”. It is mainly used as a dried pod or powder. The rich, smoky, mildly hot flavor is indispensable in mole sauces. “Pasilla” is a “little raisin” in Spanish, referring to the dark brown, wrinkled dried pod. It is called “chilaca” when fresh and it adds character to red chile enchilada sauce and other salsas. The Pasilla Bayio has narrow cylindrical pods that are 6 to 10 inches long. The peppers turn from dark green to dark brown when mature. Transplant outside in the spring 3 to 4 weeks after last frost date. Note: To get a jump on the season transplant outside, use a walls-of-water or some black plastic to maintain and increase temperatures. Plant in average garden soil with sufficient organic matter. Peppers use quite a bit of water but prefer to be watered deeply and not too often. Harvest when peppers begin to turn green to dark brown.

Dahlia – Decorative – Painted Madam

The Decorative Dahlia Painted Madam, ‘Dahlia a spring planted tuberous root, has beautiful yellow flowers with red streaks. This Dahlia produces masses of large blooms from July until frost. Dahlia’s are ideal for cut flowers, borders, containers, and massings. They tend to bloom for long periods, and few plants offer as much variety and showy flowers as the Dahlia. They do best in well drained, humus rich soils.

Hosta – Fragrant Bouquet

The Hosta ‘Fragrant Bouquet, displays wavy leaves with a creamy edge and are apple green in the middle. The1998 AHS Hosta of the Year boasts wavy leaves with a creamy edge and apple green in between. The fragrant white flowers flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hostas are not known only for their flowers. With a plant height of 20 and a spread of 32-36, Hostas provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Hosta Fragrant Bouquet needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained area. This low care perennial is ideal for shady positions, tubs and patio pots, and one of the most popular for landscape uses.
