Rose of Sharon-Paeonyflorus

The Paeonyflorus Rose of Sharon, Hibiscus syriacus Paeonyflorus, is an upright, deciduous shrub that is a vigorous, erect, multi-stemmed shrub that typically grows 8-12′ tall. This shrub may also be trained as a single trunk tree or espalier. Leaves are diamond-shaped, dark green, slightly palmate and toothed. ‘Paeonyflorus’ bears double flowers in pink to wine color from late summer until mid-fall. This plant really requires no pruning, unless you need to remove a dead or damaged branch. It has a long, early summer to fall bloom period. This cultivar is a sterile triploid that produces very few if any seed pods. It is an excellent flowering shrub that may be massed, planted in groups, or used as a specimen. The plant is very tolerant of summer heat and humidity. Larger flowers may be obtained by pruning back hard to 2-3 buds in early spring. Otherwise, prune to shape.

Dahlia – Karma – Bon Bini

The Karma Dahlia Bon Bini, ‘Dahlia Bon Bini produces flamed red flowers with golden yellow bursting centers. They will grow to 36″ tall. We first came across this new series of dahlias while visiting the Verwer Brothers a few years ago in their trial gardens. They were developed for the cut flower market in Holland because of their extraordinarily strong stems and almost iridescent colors. You will have to see them for yourself to truly see what we are talking about. Hardy in zones 8-10; elsewhere dig and store in frost-free area.

Tulip – Lily Flowering – Synaeda King

The Tulip ‘Synaeda King ‘Tulipa lily flowering a fall planted bulb, produces stunning red flowers with yellow flames. This variety is absolutely astonishing when the flowers are completely opened up. Lilly Flowering tulips have slender, urn shaped flowers with pointed tips. They are quite tall and known for their long-lasting elegant flowers. This tulip flower in late spring and they are very popular as cut flowers. Do not prune foliage until it has died back. If flowers are used for bouquets leave as much of the foliage as possible on the plant. Lily flowering tulips reliably come back every year. Lily flowering tulips are not only reliable, but they also have a look of elegance. Lift the bulbs about every 5 years or so and replant when they become too crowded.
